Weekly Director's Update

Good afternoon parents!!

SCDC’s 2nd annual bike-a-thon went so well today!! The kids had a great time riding their bikes and seeing all their smiles was so precious J It was great to see so many parents come to the event today to cheer their child on. This is such a great family event and we are so blessed with the wonderful families in our SCDC community! A special thank you to Ashley Southard for organizing all the volunteers and helping to make this event run so smoothly! We appreciate you!! A big thank you to all the parents that volunteered to help today in all the areas. We couldn’t have done it without you!! Look for a sheet in your child’s folder that has the number of laps they did today. I am aware some of you have already turned in your pledge envelopes so I just wanted to make sure you know we send that sheet home with each child as an informational tool for you. Please turn in any pledges or donations into the office by next Thursday, Oct. 22nd. Make all checks to SCDC. Thank you so much for all you do to make SCDC such a great place!!

*SCDC is a non profit school so with your help through fundraising we are able to purchase items for the school that we may not be able to purchase on our operational budget.

Your child will also be coming home today with a medal on a ribbon for them to wear in honor of their participation today!
Please pick up your bike at pick up time if you didn’t take it this morning – Thanks!

Few reminders:
*Wednesday – 9-Noon Two Girls Who Make Crosses & Thursday - 11-2 Two Girls Who Make Crosses will have a booth to sell their beautiful handmade cross t-shirts and jewelry. Check out their website at www.twogirlswhomakecrosses.com
10% of their total sales will come back to SCDC!

*Please check your child’s classroom door to sign up for the class Halloween parties on Oct. 28th & 29th. I encourage you to send your child to school that day in their costume or have it for the party. Please no scary costumes – thanks!

*Directory permission forms are due now! Please turn them in asap so we make sure to have you in the school directory if you choose to be!

Lastly, on behalf of Suncreek United Methodist Church I invite all families to attend Suncreek’s Fall Festival this Saturday from 5-7pm. This is a great event for the entire family. An orange flyer about the event was sent home in your child’s folder with more information. We hope you can make it!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and again I feel so blessed to be part of such a wonderful community of families. Thank you for all your support!!

Blessings~

SCDC 2nd Annual Bike-A-Thon

We are so excited for our 2nd annual Bike-A-Thon on Wednesday, October 14th. What a fun day for the children and a great way to support SCDC. This is our only major fundraiser for the year. All funds raised will be used to support our SCDC classrooms. For our Bike-A-Thon, the SCDC parking lot will be transformed into a bike track. The children will have assigned times when they will ride their bikes around the track. We encourage parents to come and enjoy the day with their children. The rain-date for this event is Thursday, October 15th. Let's hope for a dry and sunny day!

Weekly Director's Update

Happy Thursday parents!!

What a fun week the children have had!! We had a special guest on Wednesday and today, Pastor Tom – Sr. Pastor of Suncreek UMC, visited with the children about his job as a community helper. He brought in special props that he uses with his job such as his robe and stole, baptismal bowl, communion cup and the bible. The children really enjoyed his special time with them. Some of our classes have done special activities with apples too! It has smelled very yummy around here with the fresh applesauce simmering!!

Next week will be a busy week for SCDC! Remember NO SCHOOL MONDAY!!!

Wednesday – Bike-a-thon – please check the flyer we sent home yesterday & today about the event!! This is our main fundraiser for the school year. I will send another reminder out on Tuesday. Remember your child needs to bring their bike or whatever they are riding that day and a helmet. Your child will be riding during their scheduled recess time and that is on the flyer you should have found in the folder. Here is the schedule for the classes to ride on Wednesday:

9:30 Yellow
10:00 Rainbow & Blue
10:30 Purple
11:00 Orange & Red
11:30 Green & Sky Blue

A few other reminders:

*Please make sure on cooler days to send your child with a light jacket for outdoor recess. Also, check your change of clothes are appropriate for the season J Also, closed toe shoes are preferred with the mulch on the playgrounds and when it’s cooler the children’s toes get cold. Thank you with your help with this J

*Please sign your child in and out daily at drop off and pick up. If you have someone other than yourself doing this please pass that along. Also, the number listed needs to be the number to reach someone at for that day. Thanks!!

*On October 21st and 22nd, your child will be doing a cooking activity during their centers time for specials on Tues/Wed. They will be making Pumpkin Dip and eating it with gingersnaps and graham crackers. Here is the recipe that I encourage you to try with your child at home:

3 oz. of cream cheese (softened)
½ c powdered sugar
8 oz. can of pumpkin
½ tsp. of cinnamon
1/8 tsp. nutmeg
1/8 tsp. ginger
8 oz. tub of Cool Whip
Beat cream cheese and powdered sugar until well blended. Stir in the pumpkin and spices. Stir in the whipped topping and serve with gingersnaps or graham crackers.

An alternative activity has been planned for those students with allergies and paperwork that needed to be signed was sent home a couple weeks ago. Let me know if you did not receive that. This will be a fun time for our kiddos!!

*Oct. 21st – Fire Drill 9:45 and the Two Girls Who Make Crosses will have a booth set up from 9-noon. Check them out at www.twogirlswhomakecrosses.com they will also be here on Oct. 22nd from 11am – 2pm. 10% of their total sales they give back to SCDC!!

*Oct. 28th & 29th classroom Halloween parties

Illnesses:
As a reminder please keep your child home if they show signs of being sick. We have had quite a bit of illness and we need your help with this! Please do not expose the rest of the school if your child has a fever by giving them fever reducers and sending them to school. They are contagious and it exposes the other children! We have had a least four students possibly more that I am not aware of with the flu. Hopefully the long weekend will get our kiddos well! I appreciate all of your help with this matter in keeping our school as healthy as possible. Thank you so much!!

Remember M/W parents you will be bringing items for the bike-a-thon when you come on Wednesday and our T/Th classes we hope you will be here to ride with your class on Wednesday. I hope you all enjoy a long weekend with your families and I will see you back here on Tuesday :) I thank you for sharing your precious children with us, we are so blessed~

All of the children did get their picture taken even if the parents didn’t place an order. Both individual and class pictures were taken. The pictures should be back in 3-4 weeks. I will send the pictures home in your child’s backpack when they come in. The company, Photo Design, does give SCDC back 10% of the total sales they make from our schools photo orders. Thank you for placing an order and we hope you will enjoy the pictures!

The children had a busy and fun week! Now that we are officially into fall please make sure and send a light jacket with your child as we will go outside for recess unless it is raining. Please also pack an extra set of clothes in your child’s backpack daily – thank you!

Illnesses:
I have seen quite a bit of illness this week and it has been flu. If your child has a fever of 99 or higher I will be sending them home. Please do your part in keeping your child home if they show signs of being sick. We have several children and staff members in the pre school with compromised immune systems and cannot afford to get the flu. Because we are a shared space with Suncreek UMC we do have other members of the congregation with flu and swine flu so I will be very vigilant with our sickness policy to keep our children and staff healthy. I appreciate your patience and assistance with this matter J

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, see you next week!

Blessings~
