What a fun week we have had at SCDC! The kids have done some fun Thanksgiving activities in their classes that you have seen coming home I’m sure. The children have had a great time preparing for their feasts and talking about the first Thanksgiving. This is always a special time with the teachers and its fun to see if the children try a “new” food to them! In chapel this week the children learned about how thankful we are for the wonderful world that God has created for all of us. Just as a reminder the week we come back from break will be family chapel week. Lastly, the children had a yummy activity in their centers time making “Corn on the Cob Cookies”
which consisted of a sugar cookie, white frosting, clear decorating sugar, and yellow jelly beans. For those that have a known allergy we had an alternative cookie for them to eat. This is always fun for the kids and it gives them a chance to have a special treat!
Just a couple reminders:
**Next week we are CLOSED for Thanksgiving break – school resumes Mon. Nov. 30th**
*Week of Nov. 30th Family Chapel
*School directories were sent home this week. If you did not receive one please email Susan at susan.vankirk@suncreekumc.org
On behalf of all of the staff at SCDC I wish you and your families a blessed Thanksgiving~

Weekly Director's Update
I hope you have all enjoyed the beautiful weather this week, I know the children have enjoyed having outdoor recess!! The month of November we are celebrating home and family. The children’s activities will be centered on fall, practicing good manners and giving thanks to all the things God has given to us. We started our new bible verse in chapel this week: “Give thanks to the Lord for He is good.” During our chapel time the children got a chance to share something they are thankful for. I always love to hear the answers!!
Today we practiced our first bad weather/tornado drill. The kids did a great job with this one. Next Thursday we will have our monthly fire drill at 10:00 am. The children enjoyed the Allen Fire Departments visit this week to see the fire truck. That was a great photo opportunity! Many of the children took the firemen up on getting a chance to get up inside the fire truck for a peek!
Conference dates for Pre K rooms (Red, Sky Blue, Purple) are quickly approaching: Sign up sheets for times on these dates are by the classroom doors
Thurs. Nov. 12th Purple Room

If you find you have any questions about the progress reports please contact your teacher or myself.

*The feast takes place during your child’s scheduled lunch time and is just for the students and their teachers. We don’t treat this as a party setting. The teachers use this as an opportunity to talk about the importance of the thanksgiving feast and what that means.*
Your children are so precious and we thank you for the awesome opportunity we have with them everyday! Enjoy the beautiful weather and have a great weekend~

Happy Thursday!
I hope you all had a great week! The children have been very busy and had a great time. The classes have continued to study community helpers and fall. In chapel this week they learned about how God is like a life vest for each of us. I invite parents to attend family chapel next week – 9:15 am on the day your child’s class has chapel.
Just a few reminders:
· All bike-a-thon donations are now due! The SCDC community has been so generous on donations from our fundraiser! I will give you a total dollar amount raised by next week. Thanks so much!!
· Family Chapel all next week – 9:15 am check with your child’s teacher for the day if you are not sure
· Halloween party Wednesday for M/W Rainbow & Green classrooms & Thursday for all other classes. Please check with your classroom teachers for the party times as they may differ. We encourage the children to have costumes for the parties.
· Scholastic book orders are due by Oct. 30th
I wish you all a wonderful weekend!!

SCDC 2nd Annual Bike-A-Thon
We are so excited for our 2nd annual Bike-A-Thon on Wednesday, October 14th. What a fun day for the children and a great way to support SCDC. This is our only major fundraiser for the year. All funds raised will be used to support our SCDC classrooms. For our Bike-A-Thon, the SCDC parking lot will be transformed into a bike track. The children will have assigned times when they will ride their bikes around the track. We encourage parents to come and enjoy the day with their children. The rain-date for this event is Thursday, October 15th. Let's hope for a dry and sunny day!
Weekly Director's Update
Happy Thursday parents!!
What a fun week the children have had!! We had a special guest on Wednesday and today, Pastor Tom – Sr. Pastor of Suncreek UMC, visited with the children about his job as a community helper. He brought in special props that he uses with his job such as his robe and stole, baptismal bowl, communion cup and the bible. The children really enjoyed his special time with them. Some of our classes have done special activities with apples too! It has smelled very yummy around here with the fresh applesauce simmering!!
Next week will be a busy week for SCDC! Remember NO SCHOOL MONDAY!!!

As a reminder please keep your child home if they show signs of being sick. We have had quite a bit of illness and we need your help with this! Please do not expose the rest of the school if your child has a fever by giving them fever reducers and sending them to school. They are contagious and it exposes the other children! We have had a least four students possibly more that I am not aware of with the flu. Hopefully the long weekend will get our kiddos well! I appreciate all of your help with this matter in keeping our school as healthy as possible. Thank you so much!!
