Weekly Update from the Director

Good afternoon parents,

I am getting the weekly update out a couple days early due to the busy week! The children enjoyed the “corn” cookies in centers time yesterday and today. What a yummy treat for them! Thanksgiving feasts are tomorrow for Monday/Wednesday Rainbow, Orange and Green Rooms and on Thursday for all other classes. As a reminder, this is a teacher led event and not a traditional party. Thank you for signing up to bring the food and supplies for the feasts. We have the best families at SCDC!

Reminders:
Fire Drill tomorrow 10am
No SCHOOL next week – We are closed for Thanksgiving break
Family Chapel is the week we return from break – Nov. 29th
Book Orders are due Dec. 2nd
SCDC Christmas Program is Monday, Dec. 6th at 6:30 pm

**Please remember pick up time is at 2pm. I appreciate your help with this matter as many of my teachers need to leave on time to pick up their own children. Thank you!

I wish all of our SCDC families a blessed and safe Thanksgiving. I am so thankful that you have allowed SCDC to be part of your child’s life and having the awesome opportunity to get to know your families. Our preschool has so many reasons to be thankful

May God bless you and your families ~

We have so much to be thankful for! This week the children have been preparing for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday and why we celebrate it. Along with that we have been studying the Fruits of the Spirit. This week we talked about joy and next week is peace. Ask the children which fruit we talk about with each one. The ones we have studied so far are love – strawberry, joy – orange, and peace – watermelon. This has been fun to share with the children and I love hearing the dialogue they share during chapel. Family chapel will be the week we come back from Thanksgiving break. Next week will be a busy week with the classroom feats on Wednesday & Thursday. Please look for the sign up sheet for items needed for each classrooms feast. As a reminder this is not a classroom party instead is a teacher led event. The kids have so much fun at the feast. We will make sure to take a lot of pictures!!

Here’s an update from Centers and Computer time with Ms. Natalie & Ms. Terri:
Centers Lab is in harvest mode and we are bringing the freshest food to our local markets. We are picking apples, planting several crops, and enjoying learning how to balance our feed sacks. We are using push pin art with dots....it looks great from the window. Our children are thrilled with the "feed corn" in the sand table and enjoy working with that new texture. Computers are also full of new exciting things. We are excited to announce we have now loaded Sammy's Science on our computers so we can begin our rotations Thursday during computer lab. We are working on recycling with the kids and they now know what goes into a compost pile...Look out!

Just a few announcements for next week:
Monday & Tuesday is cooking in Centers Lab (corn on the cob cookies)
Hearing & Vision Screening for Pre K Students
Progress Reports coming home – please sign them and return by next Thursday
Scheduled Pre K Parent Teacher Conferences (Purple – Monday, Red, Tuesday, Sky Blue – Wednesday)
Fire Drill Wednesday 10am
Wednesday & Thursday classroom feasts during the students lunch time

*Remember we will be closed the week of November 22nd-25th for Thanksgiving break*

Attached is a flyer for an upcoming Early Childhood PTA meeting in November.

Happy Veteran’s Day!! I am so thankful for the sacrifice so many have made to ensure are safety and freedom. Have a great weekend~

Many blessings~

Good morning parents,

The kids really enjoyed the Allen Fire Department’s visit this week to SCDC! They were able to get up inside the fire truck and look around and have their picture taken with it. This is a huge hit every year for our students!!

This week the children began the new theme for the month in their classes. The classroom feasts are coming up on Wednesday, Nov. 17th & Thursday, Nov. 18th. These are not like the classroom parties we have for other holidays. The children will eat their “feast” with their class and teachers and they discuss what the first Thanksgiving was like and why we celebrate the holiday. This will be your child’s lunch for the day so look for a sign up sheet by next week to sign up for the food to be provided for you child’s class feast. We ask that parents do not attend the feast like our other classroom parties since this is a teacher led event.

This week we did start our new chapel lesson dealing with the Fruits of the Spirit. This week we talked about Love (strawberry) and that God wants us to love all the time just like he does for us. Next week we will introduce joy (orange) so please make sure to ask your child about what they have learned in chapel. This is a great time to introduce this to our students with Thanksgiving since they see cornucopias this time of the year!

Just a few reminders for next week:

We have our first tornado drill Monday at 9:45am

With the cooler weather please make sure you are sending a jacket or sweatshirt with your child daily. We go outside for recess daily unless it is raining J

November tuition is due

Hearing and Vision Screening Monday, Nov. 15th – Mandatory for our Pre K students (Red, Sky Blue and Purple Rooms) please turn in your form and payment ASAP. Make checks to Insight

Progress Reports: All classrooms with the exception of Rainbow will be sending home progress reports for you to review. We do this twice a year so you can see development wise where your child is. Please look it over and sign the back and return to your classroom teacher. We will do this again in the spring and at that time you will keep the progress report. *The Pre K classes are the only classes that hold fall conferences.*

Purple Conferences – Monday, Nov. 15th
Red Room Conferences – Tuesday, Nov. 16th
Sky Blue Conferences – Wednesday, Nov. 17th
If you have not signed up for your child’s pre k conference please look for the sign up sheet next to the sign in/out sheet.

Bike-A-Thon Update:
As of today we have raised $5,150 in donations!! This is fantastic and we are so appreciative of our generous community!!!! If you have donations yet to turn in that is great!! Please send them in as soon as you can. We have already purchased science curriculum (software) to use in the computer lab, books for several classrooms, and classroom manipulatives. The classrooms will continue to update items in their classrooms throughout the year with our fundraiser money. I will update you during the year with news of our purchases. Thank you so much for all your support!!!

Music:
The children are preparing for the SCDC Christmas Program which will be on Monday, December 6th at 6:30pm. All the students are part of this program so make sure you have this on your calendar. It is a special evening and will be held in the Suncreek sanctuary. Look for more information as we get closer!

**I took tons of pictures last week at the Halloween parties and during the fire truck visit this week. You may view all of those pictures on our blog at www.suncreekkids.blogspot.com. Make sure and check those out J

It was great to see so many of our SCDC families attend Suncreek’s Fall Festival last weekend. It was a fun event!!

Good afternoon,

I hope everyone has had a great week! The children have been so excited this week for Halloween and the excitement was definitely in the air with the parties and the weekend approaching. I love this time of the year and get such a kick out of all the cute costumes the children wear. Thank you to all of our parents for planning such fun parties and activities for our children for Halloween. The kids have soooo much fun!

Just a couple reminders about next week’s events:

Monday & Tuesday the Allen Fire Department will be here to show the children the fire truck and ambulance and cover some basic fire safety. The children always love this event! They will be here at 10 am both days.

In the month of November the children will be celebrating home and family. During this month you will see activities in your child’s class dealing with fall and Thanksgiving, using good manners and celebrating those special people that care for us. The bible verse this month is “Give thanks to the Lord for he is good.” Psalm 106:1.

During chapel we will be talking about all the things that God gives us to be thankful for. In addition to that we will be incorporating a few Fruits of the Spirit into our chapel time all month. (love, joy, peace and kindness)

The color of the month is brown, shape is the triangle and we will be studying the letters H and I and reviewing the letters that we have studies so far. We have a lot going on so please makes sure you take the time to read all things that come home in your child’s folder daily as well as checking emails sent to you by the teachers.

November tuition is due next week. It is not considered late until after the 15th of the month. The tuition drop box is located on the wall at the front desk (under the clock). Thanks!

Bike-A-Thon Update: Wow!! We have already raised around $4,000 in donations from the event J I thank all of you and your families and friends for generously supporting the preschool. It is such a fun event for the kids and it is all about them! It just warms my heart to see such an outpouring of love from those in our community when it comes to our precious children. Please keep sending those donations in ASAP. I will continue to collect donations as long as they continue to come in. Ideally I would like them all to be in by Monday, Nov. 1st but after that is fine too! Look for the grand total in next week’s update. I will also list the items that we used with the donations we raised. It all goes back to the classrooms and the kids!

Make sure to check out the blog weekly at www.suncreekkids.blogspot.com and you can find us on Facebook. Have a safe and fun Halloween weekend – GO RANGERS!!!!!

Blessings~

As a reminder please keep your child home if they are sick or you feel they just are not themselves and you may suspect it. Our policy is a child needs to be fever, diarrhea and vomit free for 24 hours Lovely hugh?? You may shoot me an email so I can let the teachers know your child will be absent or you may call the preschool and leave a message. Thanks!

**Please keep the Hanks family in your prayers and a huge thanks to all of you that have helped out this sweet family. I know they appreciate it very much. There has been a care calendar set up for meals for the family and you can access that by going to

Weekly Director's Report

Happy Wednesday!

Our first fire drill went very well today!! The kids were prepared and did a great job with it. We do this toward the end of every month and we will also have a tornado drill sometime in October and another one in the spring in addition to our monthly fire drills. Please remind your child these are just practices and there is no need for them to be afraid. The one in October will be held on Thurs. October 28th.

What a busy month September was for SCDC! Since the teachers are responsible to send updates to parents about the classroom activities the specials teachers will be sending an update of the monthly activities to me and I will add it to my update. Here is what went on in the centers lab, music, and computers for the month of September:

Welcome to Centers Lab. We create, we play, we work, and we cook. The month of September was full of getting to know you, the color green, working with our new blocks and sand...we love sand. We cooked Bright Banana Bites and really loved that...yum! Now that we have our songs, processes, and basic understanding of Centers Lab under our hats...we will jump right in to October with Community Helpers. We will be using our foam blocks to build buildings we see in our community, we will create art with "bleeding tissue"...so don't have on your Sunday best, we will add to our sand some community cars and will help us make our roads...and we will cook again (Pumpkin Dip) to get into the fall season. (Ms. Natalie – Centers & Computers teacher)

Computers... We started off with some great games to get us more familiar with the Computer Lab. We then worked our way into the parts of the computer (song to the tune of Alice the Camel) and now we are able to log in and out...better hope those passwords work at home Mom and Dad....We will continue to support the work in our classrooms with technology support. In October we will begin learning the "home row" on the keyboard...

Music - Praise be to our Awesome God!!! Let me start off by saying I am having a BLAST with your precious children!!!!
In September, we did a lot of movement with the 3's and 4's and a lot of fun songs with scarves and stars/puppets for the 18mos and 2's. We focused on our body parts through fun songs and finger plays.
In October we will do a lot of autumn/harvest songs about leaves, scarecrows, bats, pumpkins, and food. It will be awesome to watch them as they grow and change literally from one week to the next! I LOVE MY JOB!!!! (Ms. Mary Lee – Music teacher)

October is community helper month and throughout the month we will have special guests at SCDC to help us with that. We will have a visit from a doctor, a pastor, and in early November a fire truck visit from the Allen Fire Department. We will also enjoy the season of fall and our bible verse for the month is “When I am afraid, I will trust in you.” Psalms 56:3 and in chapel time will be studying the story of Ruth. This is such as a fun time of the year and we have a very busy month coming up!

3rd Annual Bike-a-thon - A flyer about the bike-a-thon came home this week and next week another with an envelope attached will be sent in your child’s folder. The envelope is to collect pledge money for the bike-a-thon and the lap sheet is attached to the envelope. This is our main fundraiser for the school and it benefits each of your children. We use the funds to purchase curriculum and additional classroom items. This event takes a lot of parent volunteers so please sign up to help. A sign up sheet will be posted at the front desk next week. SCDC purchased t-shirts for all the children to wear on the day of the bike-a-thon. The t-shirts will be passed out that day. The event will take place on Wednesday, October 20th.
We appreciate all you do to support us!!! Thank you!!!!!!

School Directories – Will be sent home tomorrow

*I am sending this out on behalf of one our SCDC staff and three of our SCDC mom’s that are participating in the Komen 3 Day – please see below:
